Lauxnos and Lunaire

13th Jul 2008 10:02 In the depth of twilight a strange occurance appeared- neither moon nor stars broke the shadowed sky with their usual silver brilliance. People spoke in hushed voices of the Lunaire (moon) and Lauxnos (stars) and why they did not once again grace them with their alluring presence. The creatures that roamed this now eclipsed planet were fearful- fearful of the dark that now concealed all the dangers of their home. It was this very fear that sparked between the Lunaire and the Lauxnos a sudden exchange of thought, their etheral voices wondering if whether abandoning these crowds was a wise idea.
"Laux...these humans, they are frightened."
"I see what you see Luna, but they do not deserve our tender guidance. They have yet to appreciate us."
"We were created to keep the shadows from ruling the Earth, our duties have been decided since the dawn of time. The light we have stolen was not ours to take- the aurora of the night does not belong to us, but to those we have rendered helpless."
"It is our light Lunaire! For years we have dutifully shone for them-"
"It is not! We are only mimics of the light of dawn, the light of our creator! Or have you forgotten this amongst your resent?"
The stinging words of the Lunaire obviously had the effect that was intended for their exchange immediatly stopped; the Lauxnos remaining silent for a few moments before a calming voice sang out again.
"Go shine, Lauxnos. Be the beautiful beads of light that litter the night sky, the twinkling replies to the childhood wishes. If you look but only a little closer you will find the appreciation that has been there all along."
Both the Lunaire and the Lauxnos disappeared from behind the night veil and emerged once again in their usual places above the fearing planet, chasing away the taunting shadows of the darker hours and replacing them with their celestial glow. It was then that an outbreak of 'Aahs' consumed the once crying crowds, arms of all lengths being raised to point at the midnight aurora.
"We are more appreciated than you think Lauxnos."
If anyone at that moment had paid more attention to the pattern of the stars they would have been able to make out a distinct smile next to the moon, a smile of appreciation towards the creatures below.
